Local Search
I was searching for some information the other day and noticed the number of websites dedicated to my local area. Intrigued, I carried out some research into a number of local services amazed by the results. One of the most impressive areas was the information on places to eat. Whilst there are many national and international websites all clamouring for my custom it was often the site with the ‘local appeal’ that caught my eye.
As an example. When investingating where to go for a pizza in Little-Whittering I may have a choice between a national chain of pizza restaurants or ‘little-whittering-pizza.co.uk. I was maybe helped by their description in the SERPS which made me feel welcome when compare to the bland corporate message displayed by the national chain.
What then does this mean for your website? You could go for the flashy corporate image of a go-getting company and hope to pick up a little bit of business via networking. Or you could build a reputation in the local community by building a website that appeals to the local community.
Might be worth looking again at your homepage and adding your address to the footer - you never know, somebody might be looking for something just round the corner…
