Government launches Farepak Families Fund

At last the government has stepped in and launched the Farepak Families Fund to those who lost everything in the Farepak Hampers Collapse a few weeks ago.

But although the government may be taking credit for this new fund it is actually other businesses that are effectively helping and footing the bill. So far Tescos have pledged £250,000 after Sainsbury’s had offered vouchers yesterday - see Sainsburys helps Farepak customers.

Other companies that are willing to help and are investigating methods in which they can add their support to the fund include Argos and Marks and Spencer. Seemingly getting less news is the company Park Group. This company owns the firm “high street vouchers” which was a product sold by Farepak and they said they will contribute £1m into the Farepak scheme.

The Farepak Response Fund is being setup witht eh help from York-based charity “Family Fund” - The Family Fund is a UK charity that provides grants to families with severely handicapped children and is supported by government money. During 2006, 46,000 families had received grants totalling £27m

So all big businesses reading this - please help the families and donate what you can. Add your thoughts to this entry and help the folks who have lost everything before Christmas.

The DTi have also launched an investigation into the collapse.
