Jeremy Clarkson Published His Bank Account Details Then Lost Money

In a bold move to be smug and suggest that bank accounts can’t be used to steal money by crooks, Jeremy Clarkson published his own personal bank account details in his Sun newspaper column assuming nothing would happen.

Then surprisingly (sic) someone has set up a direct debit to pay £500 into a Diabetes charity account. The Top Gear presenter also told people how to find his address meaning anyone had the basics for indentity theft fraud and that’s exactly what has happened.

The piece in his column was supposed to say that the 25m people who were on the data disc that was lost by HMRC recently had nothing to fear and that the whole saga was a “fuss about nothing”

But now Clarkson is wishing he hadn’t been so bold and will have to change the details of his Barclays account. Clarkson now says of the case: “Contrary to what I said at the time, we must go after the idiots who lost the discs and stick cocktail sticks in their eyes until they beg for mercy.”
He only noticed that money had been taken from his account when he checked his bank statements when they arrived in the post. He said he can not find out who did this because of the Data Protection Act - but perhaps he should hand the whole case over to the police for further investigation.
