The Dark Side of Internet Marketing

Since the summer the whole field of internet marketing has become extremely competitive.

In the good old days affiliates would simply email their lists with a “great” offer, chuck in their affiliate link and all would end well - with great sales for affiliate marketer and for the product owner.

This year has seen some hugely priced products go out into the market place from “stompernet” - the monthly program from Brad Fallon and Andy Jenkins that was over $10k a year - to many products costing $997 and above.

Probably no one really needs most of these products and a lot will stay on the shelves, but the trend that has been recently happening is the affiliate marketers are offering a ton of their own products as bonuses. The one that started this trend is a person called Cody Moya.

Cody has a large list and operates many membership sites. He began offering a few of his products but more recently has really pushed the boat out and offered a quad bike to anyone who was going to join stompernet (with a perceived value of $4,000)

Now this is all well and good but last week Cody over stepped the mark. He sent out an email to his list on a new product launch and said in the email that if you had already purchased the product then you should request a refund from clickbank (the payment processor) and then purchase through his link.

Well, the IM community were up in arms, and quite rightly so. The product owner had already made a sale — now one of his sale people say “get a refund then get the product from me”

Clickbank weren’t impressed either and suspended his account. I guess he has $thousands in there that he may never receive. He now can’t promote any clickbank product.

Cody did write a few posts on a forum and said in his defence that one his staff wrote the email. Of course, this is no defence, and reading the email in question is looked like Cody’s english (as english is not his first language)

The dust has now settled but Cody Moya’s name is not thought of one of the internet gurus any longer.
