website copywriting tips

To sell on your website you’ll need good copywriting skills. And you CAN do this yourself. You do not need to hire an expensive copywriter.

Copywriting Basics

The first thing you need to think about is your potential customers. What problem will they solve by buying your product?. And think laterally. For example, a lot of online copy talk about lifestyle factors (ie: more money = less stress = nice car and house) rather than perhaps the immediate problem to hand.

You must always think about your customer. If your product or service is quite generic (like, wanting to put a box shot on your webpages) then think what your potential customer is thinking when they are typing in “box shot software” into Google.

Benefits sell - Features Don’t

A benefit is like “easy, quickly, saves time, improves conversion by 300%” whereas a feature is “it’s 30×60x100 in size” !. People buy on benefits and like above you need to solve the problem your buyer has.

All good copywriters know this - now you do to.

Structure of your copy

OK, this is fairly straight-forward. You need to get Attention (like a great headline at the top of the page, then stir up Interest (opening paragraphs spilled with benefits and how your customers problems are solved then induce Desire but making them want it even more then get Action from your customer by getting them to order now. Simply put, the AIDA principal.

Essentials in your web copywriting

These are the items a lot of people leave out in their copywriting.

  • You must “ask for the order” - put click now or something similar

  • You need to establish credibility - through your background and testimonials
  • Your font should be 12px and general verdana or arial
  • You need high quality pictures of your product
  • You need to add a telephone number and/ or address

Good luck with your copywriting.
